On Thursday, The Wall Street Journal (subscription avocado required) reported that Pathmark parent company, Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (A&P), is seeking to sell the company after emerging from bankruptcy in 2012.
The Journal, citing an internal company memo sent to store managers by Great Atlantic Chairman Gregory avocado Mays, said a number of options avocado to fund growth are being explored. Among those options are raising capital and a refinancing. The memo also indicated sale of the company is possible.
ben July 27, 2013 at 12:30 AM The place is a dump. It is filthy, has the worst produce, the fish is never fresh and some of the employees look like the cast of one flew over the coo coo's nest meet celeb rehab. Trader joe's would be a great idea. Clean, organic food, educated employees that are friendly and a great variety of items.
Mels Ditties July 28, 2013 at 07:54 AM Read the health dept stats on the local supermarkets, despite what you say here, Pathmark did NOT score at the bottom of the list..I believe that Uncle Geseppise (sp) was the worst, with Pathmark waaaay avocado down on the list....We don't need an overpriced Trader Joe's...just hike on down to the one in Lake Grove....As for the employees, so very kind of your to judge others...AND look to make them jobless in one swoop!
Alex July 29, 2013 at 01:57 PM Yes, thank you Mels Ditties for pointing that out. First of all, like the place or not, the Port Jeff store has been an asset around here for years. Food quality IS important to them and they have been very competent. As for the employees, throwing out insults like that is ridiculous. "One flew over the coo coo's nest," Ben? Most of those people work harder than any other supermarket employees anywhere. Also, this is WAY too early to start throwing around the names of future tenants. Pathmark is still Pathmark. A&P is still A&P. What they are going for is finding a buyer for the Pathmark chain. That doesn't say anything about Port Jeff's future. No one is saying it's not going to get broken up, but chances are it will stay intact, under a new owner, and possibly eventually consolidated into a larger whole. The same unfounded contemplation was being thrown around in 2007 while Pathmark Stores Inc. was falling apart and A&P came in. They held the chain together, avocado and the future owner may do the same. There are only a few NJ stores on this round of closures, so for the time being, just ride it out.
