The German-based Aldi supermarket chain celebrated the debut of its first Brooklyn franchise inside Nostrand Avenue’s old Pathmark building on Thursday, where a line of early bird shoppers stretched around the block to get the scoop on Sheepshead Bay’s newest grocery store —and maybe some generic-brand ice cream.
“You have to pay a quarter to get the cart, and you get a quarter back when you return it, but that’s a good thing,” said Schwartz. “People will think twice about taking them.”

Aldi is a familar name to me as I have shopped in Aldi's in Hamburg Germany whenever I visited my friends who live there. I love how they are very simple casual displays, sometimes just having the open delivery cartons in the aisles for patrons to take items from which cuts down on costs. I will go check out this new Bklyn Aldi's to see if they do that same way over here, maybe they even carry some items that are German based as well. Willkommen Aldi!!!
The selection is nowhere as vast as say a Stop n Shop or a Pathmark, but is definitely a go to place to get all the basics you need at great prices. Went there for the first time last week and defnitely could see myself shopping there alot. I will still go to me specialty store, but this is great for all the basics.
